Good afternoon,
Temperatures continue to be very high across Kent today (Friday, 14 August) and water levels in our drinking water storage tanks in the Blean area remain low.
While our treatment and storage facilities are operating at full capacity, high demand for drinking water means there is an ongoing risk to supply to almost 1,600 properties in Blean, Rough Common and the surrounding areas.
What has happened?
Due to the continued high demand for drinking water in the prolonged spell of hot weather, our storage tanks in the area remain low.
With the hot weather continuing today (Friday), there is a risk of supply interruptions for customers in the area later this evening, or overnight into tomorrow (Saturday).
We are very sorry for this and we’re working hard to move water around to balance our network and minimise the impact to customers.
What are we doing?
We are carrying out deliveries of bottled water to ALL 1,592 properties at risk in Blean, Rough Common and the surrounding areas.
We’re working closely with Canterbury University to support the needs of the staff and students.
We’re also planning to use tankers to support the network locally and maintain supplies for as many customers as possible.
How can customers help?
We are asking our customers to use water for essential purposes only: drinking, cooking and hygiene, especially while these high temperatures continue.
Please share this message with your communities.
Thank you to everyone for their continued support in helping us keep the area’s taps flowing during this period.
When will you update me again?
We will update you again tomorrow (Saturday, 15 August), unless the situation changes.
