Canterbury City Council has today begun consultation on proposals to create a new Canterbury City Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) which would apply for three years.
The consultation is also seeking views on the activities within the proposed PSPO. This replicates the existing Order with the addition of addressing the behaviour of antisocial delivery riders in Canterbury’s city centre which, at certain times of the day, is dedicated to pedestrians. In addition, we have expanded the description of what is meant by begging to reduce impact on the community.
In 2020, Canterbury City Council introduced a PSPO to help council officers and the police deal with anti-social behaviour in the city. The current PSPO is due to expire in November 2023.
You can view the current Canterbury City PSPO here.
You can respond to the consultation by:
- completing the survey on our website
- emailing your comments to consultations@canterbury.gov.uk, or
- writing to Victoria Asimaki, Principal Policy Officer (Engagement), Canterbury City Council, Military Road, Canterbury, CT1 1YW
Consultation is open until 5pm on Monday 11 September and we look forward to hearing what you think.
We are also holding a public event where council officers will be giving a presentation and holding a question and answer session about the PSPO.
This will take place on Wednesday 9 August, between 5pm and 7pm, at The Guildhall in St Peter’s Place, Canterbury.
We look forward to hearing from you.
