South East Water Update – Kent – 12 January 4:20pm

Good afternoon,

We’re sorry to customers in the Blean area of Canterbury who are experiencing issues with their water supply, including intermittent supply, low pressure or no water. This is affecting around 1500 customers.

What’s happened?

Following the impact of cold weather and Storm Goretti, we have seen an outbreak of leaks and bursts across our network, resulting in low levels in our drinking water storage tanks.

In Blean, this has been compounded by a short shutdown at our Thannington Water Treatment Works, which provides clean drinking water to the area. The site is now running normally, but it has caused the level of drinking water in the storage tank serving Blean to fall critically low.

What are we doing?

Now that Thannington Treatment Works is running again, we are increasing the flow of water into Blean. We’re also constantly moving water around the network to balance the system, while tankers are also being used to support the network and increase the amount of water available in the area.

In addition, our leak repair teams are continuing to work around the clock to fix the leaks and bursts which are impacting the network.

When will water supplies be restored to Canterbury?

We know how disruptive this water outage is and are incredibly sorry to all customers and businesses impacted by this.

Supplies may be intermittent until we are able to pump more water into the storage tanks than is being drawn out of the system. This does mean we are currently unable to advise when supplies will be fully restored.

Alternative Water:

As Thannington Water Treatment Works is now back up and running with water flowing to replenish the drinking water storage tank, there is currently no bottled water station for customers in Blean. This is under constant review, with a view to open one in the morning should customers still not have their supply restored.

Our Customer Care Team is delivering bottled water to customers on the Priority Services Register. This is a free service for those who need additional support, and details about what we offer and how to register can be found here:southeastwater.co.uk/priority.

Customers can also call our Customer Care Team on 0800 952 4000 between the hours of 8am-7pm, Monday to Friday.

We will send a further update later this evening, and will be updating our interactive map with live information here: https://aqualerter.southeastwater.co.uk/interruption/139615

Once again, we’re very sorry for the disruption caused to your communities.

Kind regards
